Traditionally said to be used for the relief of common colds and flu, stress, asthma, headaches, depression, anxiety and inflammation, Palo Santo is also commonly used for calming the immune and nervous systems, aiding fast recovery from ailments and illnesses. It creates a pleasant, fresh smoke which may also work in keeping mosquitoes and other flying insects away.

HOW TO USE PALO SANTO

Set a clear intention and invite in what you are hoping to receive through the cleansing ritual.

Holding one stick, light it with a candle, match or lighter and allow it to burn for up to a minute before carefully blow it out, allowing the embers to create smoke. 

Unlike sage that continues to burn for some time, Palo Santo will self extinguish after about 30 seconds and need to be relit throughout the ritual.

Move around the space you wish to clear allowing the smoke to waft around, be sure to take the smoke into the corners of the room. If you are smudging a person, create a sacred loop from one foot around the body and to the other foot, working from the ground up. If you are cleansing crystals, place them in a group and let the smoke envelop them.

As you move the Palo Santo stick around each space you are cleansing, open your heart and speak aloud your intentions, call in your guides, ask for protection, whatever you are moved to speak in that moment. Allow the beautiful smoke to settle over you, bringing peace and clarity to the moment.

Once you feel your cleanse is complete, place the Palo Santo stick in a fireproof bowl and allow the embers to burn out.
