Benefits of Grass-Fed Tallow for Eczema & Sensitive Skin

What Is Grass-Fed Tallow?

Tallow is rendered fat — traditionally from grass-fed beef or mutton — that has been used as a skin remedy for centuries. Unlike modern synthetic moisturisers, tallow is remarkably close in composition to the natural sebum produced by human skin. This biological compatibility is what makes it so effective, particularly for those dealing with eczema, psoriasis, and chronic dryness.

At MumaDEE'z Creations, we source only grass-fed tallow, which is richer in fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K than grain-fed alternatives. These vitamins are critical for healthy skin cell regeneration and barrier function.

Why Tallow Works for Eczema

Eczema is characterised by a compromised skin barrier — skin that loses moisture easily and reacts to environmental irritants. Many conventional eczema creams rely on petroleum-based occlusives that sit on the skin without truly nourishing it. Tallow works differently:

  • Biocompatible lipids — Tallow's fatty acid profile (oleic, stearic, palmitic, and linoleic acids) mirrors that of human skin, allowing it to absorb deeply rather than sitting on the surface.
  • Anti-inflammatory properties — Conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) found in grass-fed tallow has natural anti-inflammatory effects, helping to calm redness and irritation.
  • Barrier repair — The saturated fats in tallow help reinforce the lipid matrix of the skin, reducing transepidermal water loss (TEWL) — a key driver of eczema flares.
  • Naturally free from synthetic additives — No parabens, sulphates, or artificial fragrances to aggravate already-reactive skin.

The Manuka Honey Difference

We pair our grass-fed tallow with raw New Zealand Manuka honey — one of the most potent natural antimicrobials on the planet. Manuka honey's unique methylglyoxal (MGO) content gives it antibacterial and wound-healing properties that work beautifully alongside tallow's nourishing fats. For eczema sufferers prone to secondary skin infections from scratching, this combination is particularly supportive.

How to Use Tallow Skincare

For best results with sensitive or eczema-prone skin:

  1. Cleanse gently with our Tallow & Manuka Honey Soap — its creamy lather cleanses without stripping natural oils.
  2. While skin is still slightly damp, apply a small amount of our Tallow & Manuka Honey Face and Body Cream and gently massage in circular motions.
  3. Use morning and night for consistent barrier repair. A little goes a long way.

A Note on Natural Skincare & Eczema

Every skin is different. While many of our customers with eczema and sensitive skin have found significant relief using our tallow range, we always recommend patch-testing new products, particularly if you have known allergies. Tallow is not suitable for those with beef or lanolin sensitivities.

We believe in transparency — our ingredients lists are short because they need to be. Handcrafted in Rotorua, New Zealand, with care for your skin and the planet.
